Ordering a Transcript: Alaska Appeals

How to order a transcript for an Alaska appeal paid by a party, based on Alaska Appellate Rule 210(b) and the Alaska Court System’s published procedures.

How to order

  1. With the notice of appeal, file and serve a designation of the electronic record to be transcribed (self-help form SHS-AP 140).  For partial designations, include the CD or tape number and log times.  The appellee has 10 days to add parts.
  2. Request the audio from the clerk of court where the hearing was held on form TF-304, Audio Recording Request.  Give the case number, hearing date, CD number, and beginning and ending log numbers.
  3. Hire and pay a professional transcriber for everything both sides designated.  A party or its attorney may not prepare the transcript.
  4. On request, the trial court clerk gives the transcriber the designations, audio, and log notes.
  5. The transcript is due 40 days after the opening notice.  The transcriber files the original and an electronic copy with the Clerk of the Appellate Courts.

Rates, audio, and deadlines

The trial courts page lists audio copies at $20 per CD, with up to 5 business days to fill a request.

When a transcript is prepared at public expense, the Clerk of the Appellate Courts arranges it with a contracted transcriber.

The court system does not provide transcription services to the general public.

If the transcript will be late, the appellant moves for an extension.

From the court

Everything on this page comes from the court’s own published procedures, which can change.  Always check the court’s page before you file: Trial courts: audio and transcripts, Designation of Transcript (self-help), Appellate Rules (Rule 210), Form TF-304.

LunarScripts is a contracted transcriber with the Alaska Court System and also prepares transcripts for parties and attorneys.  Contact us for an estimate once you have your designation.
